Sayla (Sayala) was a small (222 sq.mi., 575 sq.km.)
princely state in western India. It never issued coins. In 1941, in order
to help relieve the coin shortage in India brought on by World War II, it
issued its only piece of currency. The uniface 1 Pice note features the
state's coat of arms. The 56 x 30mm note is printed on thin
cardboard. It is a scarce, World War II local issue of India.
